Farewell, Summer 2024
My newest illustration is of my character Papaya attending a summer rave festival!
This drawing was a way of me saying goodbye to the summertime. I actually started this drawing literally on the last day of summer, so I guess a little late XD
I’ve always been a summer hater. Like seriously I despise the summertime. It’s too hot, too bright, too slow, everything just sucks for me during summer. It’s impossible to leave the house without feeling like you’ve stepped foot into a near 50 Celsius oven. Which means I tend not to leave the house much at all. However, this year, something was different. I can’t explain why, because this summer was just as brutal and exhausting as any other. But nearing the end of it, just the past few weeks, I actually began to enjoy it a little. I knew the blistering heat would soon be over and we’d fall into my favorite time of the year, and knowing that gave me a lot of comfort. I actually enjoyed the last bits of summer. It was nice – I spent time just sitting outside and watching the clear blue sky, drinking an iced coffee and eating ice cream.
So to remember this nice feeling, I made this drawing! I wanted it to be as bright, colorful, and energetic as possible. I drew Papaya for it, since she is the epitome of those three traits. I didn’t spend too much time on this piece, especially on rendering or anything fancy like that. I just wanted to capture that summer energy. I really love how it came out though! It makes me happy. One day, I’d love to attend a music festival like EDC or something. But I don’t think I could handle it. Regardless, I can at least appreciate that part of EDM culture from afar! Peace, love, unity, respect to everyone. And I hope you enjoyed your summer of 2024! :3
In all honesty, I dislike summer too. But you’re right – there’s something so nice and soothing about the last few summer days. Now that it’s almost over, I can appreciate the sun a little more.
The art looks awesome! I love the festival outfit. ^_^
