A fun art challenge... with nostalgic elements <3
I decided to do a fun character design challenge, because even though I consider myself a specialist at character design, I really don’t practice that skill enough!
I decided to create a character based off an LPS, also known as Littlest Pet Shop.
LPS were one of my favorite toys growing up, and I had around a hundred of them until I recently sold all but two!
I picked an LPS for this challenge that I never actually owned, but she had just the cutest design ever. I loved the colors and the little hair swoop. Plus, it’s a cat, which obviously drew me in.
So I went to work on making a character for her. I picked out a few main characteristics for my new OC:
She’s a shy but friendly aspiring author with a love for the 2000s style. She is heavily inspired by music and is often listening to something everywhere she goes.
However, my main inspiration for her design and character traits was the game Life is Strange. One of my favorite games, although one that I’ve never played myself – only watched playthroughs of others playing it on YouTube at least 3 times now. It’s such a lovely game. It’s emotional, intriguing, mysterious, beautiful, and seriously a unique work of art. The characters are so, so loveable. I wanted my LPS character to fit into the Life is Strange universe (besides the fact that she’s a cat person.)
So I gave her that warm, contemporary yet old-school vibe that Life is Strange characters have. She’s a coming-of-age type of girl with artistic passions and a heart of gold. I also made sure to stick with a warm color scheme to match both the game and her LPS counterpart. I was heavily inspired by the mood and colors of Life is Strange for her outfit.
I love how she turned out. I think I captured the essence of her character pretty well in my little character sheet of her. This challenge was so much fun to work on, not only because I was able to practice my character design skills, but also because it’s connected to Life is Strange and LPS, both things that are very dear to me. I’m certainly not into LPS like I was as a kid, but it was fun to walk down memory lane with this challenge. As for Life is Strange, it’s old enough now where it is nostalgic to me. And one day, I definitely want to play it for myself. <3

I didn’t name my character because I actually put her up for adoption! She wasn’t made to fit into my actual OC universe, so I decided it would be best to give her to someone else. If you’re interested in owning her design for yourself, check out my adoptables post here.
